Posting charts / images to Chat

How to Post Charts and Images in eSignal Chat

eSignal allows you to chat on an IRC (Inter-Relay Chat) network. We have extended the traditional IRC program by allowing users to post any image from the Image Publisher directly into the Chat channel. Everyone in the channel that is running eSignal will see the charts you post.

Note: You must be a member of a File Share group that allows you to publish files in order to post images into Chat. Sign up for the File Share here:

Step 1. Open a new Chat window by selecting the menu command File -> New -> Chat from the eSignal menu bar. A Chat window should open that looks like this:

Step 2. Two channels are provided by default, #eSignal (maintained by eSignal) and #daytraders (not affiliated with eSignal). Click on the "Join" button next to #eSignal. Chat will attempt to connect to the IRC server. If the attempt is successful, you will see the #eSignal channel screen, which looks like this:

You may type messages into the text area at the bottom of the window. The users who are currently in the channel with you are listed to the right.

Step 3. To publish a chart to the channel, right click on any Advanced Chart window (or any eSignal window, for that matter); select Send Image To -> Chat: #eSignal, as shown here:

Step 4. The image publisher dialog should now show, allowing you to crop the image and give it a short title and file name. The Chat publishing works by first uploading your image to the File Share, and then posting the image to the Chat channel.

Note: You must be a member of a File Share group that allows you to publish files in order to post images into Chat. Sign up at http://forum.esignal.com/register.php and join the Open Publishing Group.

Step 5. After you have clicked on OK, your chart should now show up in the Chat channel:

General Notes on Chat
- We use a public IRC server, othernet.org, which also hosts a number of other popular trading channels. A popular channel is #daytraders. These channels are NOT affiliated with us in any way. The only official eSignal channel is #eSignal.

- Only users running eSignal in the same channel will be able to see your images. The other users will see a link to the image you have published.

- If you are having problems publishing the image, be sure that you have joined a File Share group that allows you to publish images. Open Publishing Group is a free, public group that you may join to do so ( http://share.esignal.com/groupcontents.jsp?folder=&groupid=1 ).
